STEPHEN MINISTRY

STEPHEN MINISTERS CARE FOR PEOPLE FACING TOUGH TIMES

We all experience challenges in life—times when we could benefit from the support of a caring Christian friend.  Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of training and are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care we need when faced with a crisis or difficulty, such as:

  • Aging
  • Loneliness or Discouragement
  • Birth, Adoption, Miscarriage, Infertility
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Chronic Illness
  • Recovery from an accident or disaster
  • Divorce or Separation
  • Relocation
  • Empty Nest Syndrome
  • Spiritual Crisis
  • Hospitalization
  • Terminal Illness
  • Incarceration
  • Unemployment or Job Crisis

“Therefore encourage one another

and build up each other.”

1 Thessalonians 5

WHAT IS STEPHEN MINISTRY?

Our Staff Ministers will always be on the front lines of care, especially during times of crisis.  However, there are often more needs than can be individually met by our Staff.

This is where Harvester Christian Church’s Stephen Ministry steps in by equipping lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry.

The identity of those receiving care

and what takes place in each caring relationship remains private.

Whether your need is for a few months, or for an extended period of time, a Stephen Minister will be specifically chosen for you during your time of need.  They will meet with you on a weekly basis to listen, support, encourage, and pray, and if between visits you need to talk with your Stephen Minister, you can give them a call.

Stephen Ministers reach out with God’s love to people who are hurting in our congregation and in our community.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way

you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

You play an important role in our Stephen Ministry.  You can help by:

  • Praying for God to bring hope and healing to hurting people through our Stephen Ministry.
  • Accepting care from a Stephen Minister during your time of need; God doesn’t expect you to bear your burdens alone.
  •  Telling your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives about our Stephen Ministry.
  • If you are a good listener and a compassionate person, prayerfully consider becoming a Stephen Minister.

Could you benefit from the confidential, one-to-one care and support of a Stephen Minister?

Do you know someone else—perhaps a friend, neighbor, coworker, or relative—who could benefit from Stephen Ministry?

Are you interested in possibly becoming a Stephen Minister?
